The National Academy of Art – Burgas Branch and the Polish Cultural Institute in Sofia present the exhibition State of Balance – a series of colour linocuts by the Polish artist Karol Lewalski at the Atelier Gallery.

The exhibition will be officially opened on 18 March 2025. Afterwards, an open discussion will take place with the participation of Albena Spasova and Asst. Prof. Emanuela Kovach – teachers at the National Academy of Art.

The works of Karol Lewalski reflect the harmony achieved through the art of printmaking, in which linocut is not just a technique, but a way of expressing emotions, thoughts and contemplation in search of a state of balance. The collection presents a variety of prints created in the last decade, which are indicative not only of the artist's creativity, but also of the achievements of the Polish graphic art school and, in particular, of its tradition in the field of linocut. In the era of digital technologies, looking at one of the classical methods of engraving and interpreting it through the worldview of a contemporary artist enriches the idea of the diversity of possible means of expression and their synthesis in fine and applied graphics. Both the artist and the viewers who encounter his works have the opportunity to "immerse" themselves in this state of balance through art that invites us to stop and take a breath.

Karol Lewalski (b. 1986) graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk, Poland. Currently, he works as an assistant professor to Prof. Waldemar Marszalek at the Studio of Fundamentals of Graphic Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk. He is a recipient of the award of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage of Poland for outstanding artistic achievements, a participant in numerous exhibitions and a winner of awards from national and international competitions, including: Biennial of Student Graphics in Poznań, Pomeranian Graphics of the Year, Image Poster Competition of the Polish Institute in Vienna, etc.
