Students and teachers from the Department of Industrial Design at the National Academy of Art have been awarded in the Bulgarian Furniture of the Year 2025 competition

The Bulgarian Furniture of the Year 2025 awards were presented in the 19th edition of the International Fair EXPOMEBEL. For a consecutive year, the National Academy of Art participated with its own stand. Assoc. Prof. Zahari Ganchev, PhD, Head of the Department of Industrial Design at the National Academy of Art, was a member of the competition expert jury.
Three students from the Department of Industrial Design at the National Academy of Art were distinguished in the categories for realised products and conceptual projects of students.
The first prize in the Realised Products – Students category went to Radina Borisova, Bachelor's degree holder from the Department of Industrial Design, Class of 2024 at the National Academy of Art, for the Fiama seating furniture series, for which she received a statuette, a certificate, subscription to MD Magazine and a special award from Prodiz.
First place in the Conceptual Projects – Students category was awarded to Angel Pavlov, 4th-year student in the Department of Industrial Design, for his design of Roundy modular bench for urban environment. He won a statuette and a diploma from the organizers, an annual subscription to MD magazine and an award from Inteza.
For her multifunctional children’s furniture, Radostina Krasteva, 3rd-year student in the Department of Industrial Design at the National Academy of Art, won second prize in the Conceptual Projects – Students category.
In the Conceptual Projects – Professionals category, part-time teacher Denitsa Ivanova, PhD, Department of Industrial Design, was awarded second prize for her series “Lines”. The winner in the Realised Products – Professionals category is again a graduate of the Department of Industrial Design at the National Academy of Art. First place is awarded to Martin Tsankov for his design of chairs and tables “The Power Nap Chair”, Studio Buenacasa, manufacturer: Valiyan OOD.
The Bulgarian Furniture of the Year competition has been held since 2011 as a joint initiative between MD Magazine of Bismar Publishing House, Branch Chamber of Woodworking and Furniture Industry and Inter Expo Center. The designer of the Bulgarian Furniture of the Year prize statuette is part-time teacher Stefan Ivanov, PhD, from the Department of Sculpture at the National Academy of Art.
