The workshop will be held from 23rd to the 27th of September 2024 in the new printmaking base of the National Academy of Art (Atelier 28, Rectorate, 1 Shipka Street, Sofia). It is financed with the courtesy of the Ministry of Culture under the project "Experimental Photogravure Printmaking" and is part of the department's policy to enrich the educational methods. The workshop will introduce the participants to the classic yet innovative method of creating graphic artworks, which will be united by a creative experiment.

Printmaking, photography and photogravure have always been hand in hand in their discoveries, in technical and artistic processes. Photogravure (known also as mezzotint, heliogravure and Van Dyke gravure) is the best photogravure method for preparing a graphic matrix for printing works of art. The process is very attractive as it successfully allows for both painting with any kind of materials, photography, collages, etc, and digital image creation. The earliest form of photogravure process is the heliography of Nicéphore Niépce.

Applicants for participation in the workshop must send a short motivation letter and photos of their works or a portfolio by 21 September 2024 to d.hristova@nha.bg

All the necessary materials for the participants are provided through the project.
