Creative workshop for students from the National Academy of Art on the occasion of Italian Design Day 2025

2025.02.10

As part of the ninth edition of the Italian Design Day in Sofia (11–12 February 2025), the National Academy of Art and the Italian Cultural Institute – Sofia (Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Sofia) are organising a creative workshop for the students at the Academy to create design objects from various recycled materials, to be led by the Bulgarian-Italian designer Asya Karagyozova. The goal is for the students to express their ideas on the topic of INEQUALITIES by creating design objects made from unnecessary objects or parts of them, thus proving the fundamental mission of contemporary design – to be environmentally friendly and sustainable.

Asya Karagyozova is an Italian Design Ambassador around the world. Born in 1978 in Sofia, Karagyozova studied Economics in Milan and later completed specialisation studies in Communication, Publishing and Fashion Photography, having gained great experience in product design and marketing.

About Italian Design Day 2025
This year's theme of Italian Design Day is INEQUALITIES. Design for a Better Life, which is linked to the upcoming world exhibition Triennale di Milano (May–November 2025) under the title of Inequalities. How to Mend the Fractures of Humanity. Triennale di Milano aims to present the best projects and policies fighting the growing inequalities that divide humanity today.

The main objective of Italian Design Day is to highlight the role of quality design in reducing and combatting inequalities, and their impact on everyday life. The event is linked to the 63rd edition of Salone del Mobile–one of the most important world forums in the interior design sector, which will be held in Milan from 8 to 13 April 2025.

The project was developed within the framework of the Permanent Commission on Internationalisation of Design, coordinated by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in collaboration with the Italian Ministry of Culture, the Association of Industrial Design (ADI), the Compasso d’Oro Foundation, the Italian Trade Agency (ICE), the Salone del Mobile, the Triennale di Milano, FederlegnoArredo, the Altagamma Foundation and Confindustria.

On the occasion of the Italian Design Day, this year too, the Italian Cultural Institute will present an exhibition of wall panels entitled Photography for a Career. Tribute to Italian Photography and the Masters of Compasso d’Oro of the Last 25 Years.
