FONT design FOR non-font DESIGNERS

The event is part of the programme of the National Academy of Art, dedicated to the celebration of 24 May 24 – the Day of the Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius, of the Bulgarian Alphabet, Education and Culture and of Slavic Literature.
Assoc. Prof. Svetlin Balezdrov, PhD, and the PhD student Lyuboslav Boyanov will give a lecture on the topic FONT DESIGN FOR NON-FONT DESIGNERS, which aims to present modern methods and technologies for creating digital fonts, as well as to demonstrate their potential for application in design practice.
The lecture is intended for all those who are interested in the processes of creation and practical application of modern digital fonts and wish to deepen, expand or update their knowledge in the field of font design and typography.
The lecture is part of the project "Shared Fonts" implemented within the framework of the 2026 Competition for Funding Projects on the Scientific Research and Artistic Activities at the National Academy of Art.
Svetlin Balezdrov is an associate professor and doctor at the National Academy of Arts, where he teaches the academic disciplines "Graphic Design" and "Multimedia in Advertising" in the Department of Design in Advertising. In parallel with his teaching activities, he develops an active practice in the field of typography and is a co-founder of the digital platform for Bulgarian typography npoekmu.me.
Lyuboslav Boyanov is a typeface designer and calligrapher whose interest in typography and calligraphy was formed during his studies in the Department of Poster and Visual Communication at the National Academy of Art. Already as part of his graduation project, he developed a font optimised for small-scale work, which attracted international attention and was presented at the Type Directors Club Young Ones, and was also awarded second place in the Pangram competition.
