With a happening on 4 August 2025, Monday, at 5:00 pm, the National Academy of Art will officially launch the Sixteenth Summer Academy for Children and School Students at the National Academy of Art, during which young artists–project participants–will draw, paint, model, make ceramics objects, learn to weave, that is, will create art.

The Summer Academy for Children and School Students at the National Academy of Art is a long-term educational project of the National Academy of Art, organised by the St Pimen Zografski Foundation at the National Academy of Art. The project's artistic director is Maria Landova. Teachers and alumni of the Academy, who have completed a second specialisation programme in Theory and Practice of Art Education. This year, the Summer Academy will be held entirely in the premises of the Faculty of Applied Arts and Design of the National Academy of Art at 73 Tsarigradsko shosse Blvd.

The creative classes will begin at 9:00 am on 4 August, when the young artists will get acquainted with the art of the American abstract artist, sculptor and innovator in kinetic art Alexander Calder, and of the Catalan surrealist and sculptor Juan Miró. Then, the participants will create works inspired by the work of the two world-famous artists. The works will be exhibited by the children and their teachers (students at the Academy), in the courtyard and stairwell of the building to welcome the guests at the opening event.

This year, the Summer Academy also sets itself the goal of developing children's imagination in the studios specially prepared by the Academy team. In addition to Calder and Miró, the young artists will draw inspiration from the fairy tales of Hans Christian Andersen, and that will be of irreplaceable benefit in bringing each of their ideas to life.
