Prof. Bogomil Nikolov will be awarded the honorary title of Doctor Honoris Causa of the National Academy of Art

At a special meeting of the Academic Council of the National Academy of Art, to be held on 12 March 2023 (Tues), starting at 4:00 pm in Academia Gallery (1 Shipka Street, Sofia), Prof. Bogomil Nikolov will be awarded the honorary title of Doctor Honoris Causa of the National Academy of Art.
Prof. Bogomil Nikolov graduated with a degree in Small Metal Sculpture from the Academy of Applied Arts and Design in Moscow. In 1996, he began teaching at the National Academy of Art – Sofia, where he obtained the title of professor in 2002. Bogomil Nikolov is the founder and leader of the Atelier for Medal Sculpture at the National Academy of Art, and the designer of numerous medals and coins. As the leader of the Atelier for Medal Sculpture, he had huge impact on the development of medal art in Bulgaria, having supervised dozens of students and their artisctic works.
Bogomil Nikolov works mainly in the field of medal sculpture, as well as painting, applied arts and graphic design. His works are part of the collections of world museums and galleries – the British Museum and Victoria and Albert Museum in London, Pushkin State Museum of Art in Moscow, Royal Medal Collection in Stockholm, and many others. He received the Annual Prize and the President's Medal of the British Art Medal Society (BAMS) in 2012. As an artist and activist, he enjoys high international recognition both in the field of art education and of organising large-scale national and international events and artistic projects. He has significantly contributed to Bulgaria's becoming one of the leading countries in this area. An expression of high appreciation for his effective activity is the fact that the International Art Medal Federation (FIDEM) commissioned him to organise the XXXIII World Congress of FIDEM in Sofia in 2014. In 2018, he received the Sanford Saltus Award (of ANS – American Numismatic Society) – the world's most prestigious award granted for outstanding achievements in the field of medal sculpture. The award was granted by the Sanford Saltus Award Committee's Executive Director Ute Wartenberg Kagan.
