Stage II of the project on expansion and reconstruction of the National Academy of Art has begun

Today, 17 June 2025, with a solemn blessing of waters performed by His Eminence Bishop Meletius of Znepole, Rector of the Sofia Theological Seminary, and an official presentation of the project by Arch. Stefan Dobrev, Stage II of the project for the expansion and reconstruction of the Northern Building of the National Academy of Art was given a start.
In the presence of the Academy's management body, teachers and employees, the Rector Prof. Georgi Iankov expressed his joy about the beginning of this project much-awaited by the entire academic community, for the implementation of which several management bodies of the National Academy of Art have been working successively since 2005–first when the Rector was Prof. Bozhidar Yonov and then during the mandates of Prof. Svetoslav Kokalov and Prof. Nikolay Drachev. Public support for the project was the presence of Ms Blagorodna Zdravkova, Deputy Mayor of Sofia City Municipality, Mr Georgi Kuzmov, Mayor of Oborishte Region, the newly elected Director of the National Gallery, Ms Anelia Nikolaeva, Mr Krassimir Dachev, Chair of the Board of Trustees of the National Academy of Art, Mr Yanko Shumkov, Manager of the Sreza contractor company, Engr. Emil Todorov, Manager of the Stroitelen Standard EOOD company.
As a sign of appreciation for the efforts made towards the implementation of the project during the two Rectorship terms of Prof. Kokalov, Prof. Iankov presented him with three floor tiles from the emblematic North Building (built in 1905) of the National Academy of Art.
From Meletius of Znepole, the Rector of the National Academy of Art received an icon of the Holy Virgin with Child Jesus, with metal fittings.
