The Summer Academy for Children and School Students 2025 (SAChSS) in Burgas is dedicated to the characters in the fairy-tales by Hans Christian Andersen (1805–1875) and the Sea – marine archaeology and ecology.
The National Academy of Art and the St Pimen Zografski – National Academy of Art Foundation invites the children of Burgas to join the diverse creative activities organised by the SUMMER ACADEMY FOR CHILDREN AND SCHOOL STUDENTS at the Academy's branch in Burgas. SAChSS is an established cultural and educational project with a fifteen-year history.
The Summer Academy for Children and School Students project at the National Academy of Art – Burgas Branch is implemented with the financial support of the Municipality of Burgas.
Within 4 weeks, the Summer Academy will offer young artists exciting encounters with the world of art. Children will create under the guidance and care of students and teachers from the National Academy of Art, with the participation of visiting artists.
Children and school students from 6 to 18 years of age can participate in the Summer Academy creative activities in the studios. The activities are adapted to the age of the participants. Every weekday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, the young artists will embark on a colourful adventure in the studios of the National Academy of Art – Burgas Branch located on the second floor of Magaziya 1 (Port Complex Burgas), in the Sea Garden, in the spaces of the Sea Casino Cultural Center, in the premises of the Regional Library and in the museums around the city.
The workshop programme includes a series of workshops: one led by the artist Anzhela Minkova on EBRU–the ancient technique of painting on water, whereas with Asst. Prof. Boryana Tsaneva, a lecturer in the Department of Fashion Design at the National Academy of Art, carnival costumes will be made and a fashion show will be organised for the finale of SAChSS 2025 – Burgas.
The Seventh Summer Academy for Children and School Students will end with a large exhibition of the children's works, which will be presented in the Atelier Gallery of the National Academy of Art – Burgas Branch.
The curriculum includes working in creative studios: Academic Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, Sculpture, Poster, Authorship Book, Authorship Comic Strip, Ceramics and Pottery, Icons, Textiles, Making Puppets and Sets for Puppet Theatre, Plein Air – Seascape, Land Art.

For a third consecutive year, the children's works will help their peers in need – a charity bazaar will be organised in the centre of Burgas, where citizens and guests of the city will be able to purchase works by the young artists.
The Summer Academy for Children and School Students in Burgas starts on 23 June 2025 (Monday), at 9:00 am, National Academy of Art – Burgas Branch, Magaziya 1, Fl. 2, Burgas Port Complex.
Participation fee
All day (9:00 am – 5:00 pm) – BGN 35
Morning block (9:00 am – 1:00 pm) including intensive classes in the studios – BGN 20
Afternoon block (2:00 pm – 5:00 pm) including additional studios, workshop with visiting artists, plein air in the Sea Garden and the Casino, visits to and painting in the Burgas museums and galleries, lectures, meetings with artists, excursions – BGN 20
Participation fee discounts (social): 10% bonus upon registration for the entire project duration
1. For the second child in a family – 10% off;
2. For the third and subsequent children in a family – 50% off;
3. For orphans and children having a Territorial Expert Physicians Commission decision – 50% off upon presenting a relevant document
PROGRAMME
STUDIOS
Academic Drawing Studio
Children will feel like real students. They will draw complex still lifes with plaster ornaments, antique plaster heads, and also sketches of a live model from nature with graphic materials, under the supervision of Ivan Grozev;
Painting Studio
The place where still lifes from nature and compositions from imagination will be drawn with different materials: watercolor, pastel, tempera and acrylic. Children will make interpretations based on reproductions of paintings by Georgi Baev – patron of the sixth edition of SAChSS “More”, under the supervision of Aleksandra Nikolova and Aleksandra Ivanova;
Comic Strip Studio
Children will invent their own fantastic comic characters, come up with an action story and draw their own authorship comic strips with graphic or colour materials of their choice. They will also make the longest chalk comic strip on the asphalt in the Sea Garden, under the supervision of Teodora Yordanova and Toni Kazandzhiev;
Let's Make a Book Workshop
Children will be writers, illustrators, designers and publishers of their own unique authorship book. They will also make a Big Book dedicated to Georgi Baev, under the supervision of Vicheslava Tashkova and Dessislava Todorova
Puppets for Puppet Theatre Workshop
Puppets for a fairy tale with sea creatures invented by the children will be born. Each child will also make a miniature puppet theatre in a shoe box, under the supervision of Kaya Ivanova and Denislav Stoyanov
Sculpture Studio
Working with clay – reliefs and round sculpture, under the supervision of Tanya Stoyanova
Ceramics and Pottery Studio
Making ceramic vessels, figurines, ocarinas and various vessels on a potter's wheel, under the supervision of Nataliya Nikolova and Elena Mazneva
Textile Studio
Working with textile materials, textile paintings and mini dolls will be made under the supervision of Hatche Hakova Alieva and Aleksandra Koleva
Icon Studio
Introducing children to the tradition of the Orthodox icon. They will make a copy of an icon and the best projects will be made on wood with egg tempera, varnishes and gold leaf for the halo, under the supervision of Yoana Zhivkova Atanassova
13+ Studio for teenagers
Intended for older school students and will work on a programme tailored to the specific interests of each participant. Computer designs and designs for cars, favourite bands posters, comics strips and computer animation, avant-garde fashion projects will be designed, under the supervision of Tsvetelina Stoyanova
