The National Academy of Art and Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" signed a memorandum of cooperation

Today, 30 January 2026, at Academia Gallery, the Rectors of the National Academy of Art and Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" Prof. Georgi Iankov and Prof. Georgi Valchev, PhD, signed Memorandum of Cooperation between two of the oldest higher education institutions in Bulgaria, in the fields of science, education and arts. The document is valid for six years and declares the readiness to work together on the creation and implementation of interdisciplinary Master's and doctoral programmes; expanding and deepening relations between the academic communities by creating a productive environment for the exchange of experience and resources; creating common research and creative products in the fields of arts, humanities, natural and cultural sciences.
An emphasis in the agreement is the encouragement of young scientists – doctoral and postdoctoral students, in their academic and creative development. The cooperation will also be implemented through sharing library, information and educational resources, as well as through organising common forums and educational initiatives, including providing mutual expert assistance in assessing projects and quality procedures.
The graphic and plastic design is created at the National Academy of Art by Assoc. Prof. Nenko Atanasov, PhD, and Ch. Asst. Prof. Ventsislav Shishkov, PhD. The plaque was commissioned by Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" and will be awarded for merits and contribution to Sofia University. During the official event, Assoc. Prof. Atanasov shared that the symbol of the concept was "light and the spiritual, which is above the material, above the tangible" and added that "the inspiration was an emblematic window in the dome of Sofia University, which we all see when passing by. This was our eternal symbol and we managed to incorporate it into this symbolism."
