The National Academy of Art and the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences join efforts towards the development of education and science, and the preservation of Bulgaria's cultural heritage

On 3 February 2026, the Chair of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Corresponding Member Evelina Slavcheva, and the Rector of the National Academy of Art, Prof. Georgi Iankov, signed a Memorandum of Cooperation.
 
With this act, the two institutions formalise their will for joint activities with the aim to enhance the achievements of Bulgarian science and education.
 
The 5-year term agreement covers a wide range of activities, with a special focus on supporting young scientists–doctoral students, postdoctoral students and young researchers in their academic and creative careers. The two institutions agreed to share library, information and educational resources, as well as to provide mutual expert assistance in procedures for assessing the quality of education and the scientific research and artistic production. Planned is also to organise joint research and creative forums, and to implement joint projects on studying and preservation of the country's cultural heritage.
 
The Rector of the National Academy of Art, Prof. Georgi Iankov, announced that one key event during the celebrations of the 130th anniversary of the National Academy of Art will be an international scientific conference, and accordingly extended an official invitation for participation to the scientists from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
 
During the meeting, Corresponding Member Slavcheva presented Prof. Yankov with a bilingual scientific album published on the occasion of the 155th anniversary of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, which includes works from the art collections of the Academy of Sciences.
