The National Academy of Art opens Column Gallery in Sofia and Burgas

The first exhibition at the Column Gallery presents a special selection of posters by Prof. Ivan Gazdov, PhD, on the occasion of his 80th birth anniversary.

The National Academy of Art opens the Column Gallery–two rotating poster columns, of which one is located in the Red Building of the National Academy of Art at 1 Shipka Street in Sofia and the other – in the Academy’s Branch in Burgas.

The Column Gallery will present exhibitions by teachers and students of the National Academy of Art, Bulgarian and foreign artists, and curatorial projects. The two columns are works of art by Prof. Georgi Iankov, personally donated by him to the Academy.

The first exhibition at the Column Gallery in Sofia shows a special selection of posters by Prof. Gazdov, with which the artist and the National Academy of Art celebrate his upcoming 80th birth anniversary.

Ivan Gazdov (b. 1945, Yambol, Bulgaria) is a Bulgarian artist, working mainly in the field of graphics, poster, illustration, caricature and advertising. A long-time teacher in the Department of Poster and Visual Communication and Rector of the Academy (1999 – 2003), Dr. h. c. of the National Academy of Art since 2023, the artist has gained worldwide fame for the style Graphicature he has created, and for the concept of Authorship Poster. The teaching activity of Prof. Ivan Gazdov at the National Academy of Art for over five decades, his numerous national and international awards, and the realisation of over 250 exhibitions, emphasise the significance of the artist's contribution to the development and establishment of contemporary visual art in Bulgaria.

Column Gallery will open on 7 April 2025 (Monday), 2:00 pm, Floor 1, Red Building, National Academy of Art, 1 Shipka Street.
