PORTRAIT AND SELF-PORTRAIT presents the artistic results from the second plein air “Towards the Source” held in 2024 at Trakart Park, Plovdiv.
In 2024, for a second year, the academic plein air “To the Source” explored the egg tempera technique and its possibilities for implementation in contemporary painting. The project manager is Assoc. Prof. Atanas Atanassov, PhD – Head of the Department of Drawing at the National Academy of Art.

The task for the participants in the open-air workshop was to create a portrait and a self-portrait on a wooden base, starting with gluing the canvas, priming, sanding. The paints were prepared by the students and teachers on site using pigment and egg emulsion.
The project is implemented within the framework of the 2024 Competition for Funding Projects on the Scientific and Artistic Activities at the National Academy of Art.
