Three Seas Initiative (TSI) is a political project of 12 EU мember states at the level of heads of state, launched in 2016. It involves Austria, Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Hungary, Croatia and the Czech Republic.
Through TSI the participating countries aim to deepen their integration in the region surrounded by the Baltic, Adriatic and Black Seas and to create greater North-South axis of connectivity among them in the fields of energy, transport, information technology and business, which will contribute to building a stronger and more connected Europe.
When taking on the coordination process from Estonia for the organisation of the June 2021 summit in Bulgaria, President Rumen Radev pointed out that our country is ambitious to follow this line of regional cooperation and connectivity, adding a focus on the contribution of science, education and technology.
The State Cultural Institute (SCI) to the Minister of Foreign Affairs together with Pimen Zografsky Foundation - National Academy of Art and with the expert support of the specialised directorates at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a competition for the design of a graphic sign (logo) of Bulgaria's coordination role in the Three Seas Initiative. A commission comprising representatives of Political Directorate for Foreign Economic Relations (Margarita Ganeva, Director of Directorate for Foreign Economic Relations and Emil Yalnazov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary), the State Cultural Institute (Snezhana Yoveva, Director of SCI and Ilian Lolugov, Chief Expert at SCI) and lecturers from the National Academy of Art (Assoc. Prof. Ilia Gruev, Prof. Victor Paunov, Dr. Nenko Atanasov) discussed and evaluated the submitted proposals for logo design according to a point grading system. After voting the jury nominated Svetlin Balezdrov's project the winner out of 12 proposals received in total.
Competition participants: Georgi Pavlov - Project 1 and 2, Ivaylo Todorov - Project 3, 4 and 5, Lila Koleva - Project 6, Lyudmil Veselinov - Project 7, Milena Abanos - Project 8 and 9, Svetlin Balezdrov - Project 10, 11 and 12.
The selected project balances a combination of several components in a minimalistic composition. The logo orientation on the ascending diagonal conveys a feeling of rise and development. The stylised book symbolises science and education and forms a group referencing to the joint efforts of the member states located along the three European seas shores.
