Small is BIG | Happening and Exhibition at the Summer Academy for Children and School Students
2025.08.12

DEDICATED TO 12 AUGUST – INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY
On 12 August, the world celebrates the International Youth Day – a holiday proclaimed by the UN General Assembly 26 years ago and created to draw attention to young people, their achievements and aspirations, and active participation in social processes.
For the sixteenth time, the youth team of the Summer Academy for Children and School Students at the National Academy of Art dedicates its artistic happening to young people. And to their hopes for a peaceful and integrated world, whose creators they will be.
This year’s theme–Small is BIG–turns its attention to the small things that hide enormous vital force: blades of grass, birds, insects… and the children themselves.
We will populate the yard with huge butterflies, ladybugs, ants and flowers drawn by the children. There will be music. Shadow Theatre will be performed in the auditorium, while in the sun we will get acquainted with the photographic printing process cyanotype, using various plants. At the end of the Youth Day, white balloons will carry white origami birds high into the sky with wishes for peace everywhere in the world, says Maria Landova, the artistic director of the Summer Academy.
The project "Summer Academy for Children and School Students at the National Academy of Art" is implemented with the support of the Sofia City Municipality – Calendar of Cultural Events for Year 2025.
