The National Academy of Art awarded Prof. Emil Popov with the honorary title of Doctor Honoris Causa

On 15 April 2026, the official ceremony of awarding Prof. Emil Popov with the honorary title of Doctor Honoris Causa of the National Academy of Arts was held in Academia Gallery of the National Academy of Art. This is in recognition of the artist for his merits and exceptional contribution to the development and presentation of contemporary Bulgarian visual and plastic art. Emil Popov's impressive artistic work and his long-standing teaching activity at the National Academy of Art make him one of the brightest representatives of contemporary Bulgarian sculpture, who has prepared generations of artists in Bulgaria.
The honorary title was awarded to Prof. Popov by the Rector of the National Academy of Art, Prof. Georgi Iankov, in the presence of the Academy's management, lecturers, students and guests. The Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts, Assoc. Prof. Regina Dalkalacheva, PhD, opened the event with “It is a particular pleasure for me to welcome you to the Academia Gallery and to the exhibition КОНФЕРАНС ...75–026, with which we celebrate the remarkable creative path of Prof. Emil Popov. In June 2025, the Academic Council unanimously decided to honor him with this title for his exceptional contributions to the development and promotion of contemporary Bulgarian visual art.”
