On 9 November 2021 (Tuesday), Mr. Josep Fèlix Bentz, President of the Royal Artistic Circle of Barcelona, Spain, and member of the International Confederation of Art Critics, was on a visit to Sofia. Part of his programme was the meeting with Prof. Georgi Iankov, Rector, and Prof. Dr. Sc. Svilen Stefanov, Vice Rector, at the National Academy of Art. The two art organisations -- the Royal Artistic Circle of Barcelona and the National Academy of Art in Sofia -- were presented at the meeting. Among the topics discussed at the meeting were opportunities for co-operation in the field of fine arts such as exhibitions, art residencies and future creative meetings. At the end of his visit to the National Academy of Art, Mr. Bentz viewed the exhibition "10 Years of Master's Degree Programmes at the Department of Book, Illustration, Printed Graphics" in Academia Gallery and visited the painting and sculpture ateliers.
The Royal Artistic Circle of Barcelona was founded in 1881 by several famous artists with the aim to promote arts. It is one of the most authoritative art institutions in Spain. In 1916, the institution was recognised under that name and granted special status by King Alfonso XIII of Spain. The gallery of the Royal Artistic Circle in Pignatelli Palace, a medieval architectural monument in the centre of Barcelona, consists of several unique halls and is the oldest professional gallery in Spain. This is where much of the Catalan modernism has developed.
The highest award of the Royal Artistic Circle is the Gold Medal for contribution to European and world culture. Among the prominent artists who have been granted the medal is Bulgarian sculptor Vezhdi Rashidov in acknowledgement of his artistic work and promoting Bulgarian art.
