Stoimen Stoilov is an artist capable of building from ashes, a master of printmaking and illustration, a skilled connoisseur of plastic arts, in whose figurative ensembles the viewer goes on a journey. For his exceptional contribution to the development of contemporary Bulgarian visual art and promoting it around the world, the Academic Council of the National Academy of Art has decided to award Prof. Stoimen Stoilov with the honorary title of Doctor Honoris Causa. On this occasion, Stoimen Stoilov is presenting an exhibition at the Academia Gallery, including works created with various techniques and mediums–prints, papyri, pastels, drawings and paintings–from different periods of his creative path.

Prof. Stoimen Stoilov was born on 18 September 1944 in the city of Varna. In 1972, he graduated from the Department of Graphic Art and Illustration at the Nikolay Pavlovich Institute of Fine Arts, today the National Academy of Art, in Sofia under Prof. Aleksandar Poplilov. For a long-time, he was the Director of the International Biennial of Graphics in Varna, which he founded together with Prof. Hristo Neykov in 1981. In 1991, he was awarded the prestigious Gottfried von Herder Award for Lifetime Achievement by the University of Vienna. He works in the field of fine graphics, painting and illustration, creating the artistic design of over 50 books, including literary works by a number of world and Bulgarian classic authors. A turning point  his antistatic life was 1991, when his studio in Varna burned down. Soon after, he left for the Austrian capital of Vienna, where he has been living and working since. Prof. Stoilov's name is included in "Benezit"–the oldest French encyclopeadia of fine arts. For three years he was the official artist of the Danube International Arts Festival in Austria. He is a member of the Union of Bulgarian Artists.
